The December holidays should be a time to relax and recuperate, but having family around, entertaining, and going to parties or dinners can be stressful. We give you a few tips to help you survive the festive season.

MAKE YOUR BED
Start your day on the right foot by making your bed as soon as you’re up. By doing this simple – and quick – thing you’ll have accomplished at least one thing in your day. Make your bed every morning and you’ll get into a good routine which will lead to other productive habits. And anyway, a made bed will make even the messiest room look a little cleaner.

GET UP A LITTLE EARLIER

It’s probably the last thing you want to read when you’re on holiday, but if you have lots to do or you’re going somewhere, set your alarm a little earlier and avoid using the snooze button. By giving yourself a little extra time in the morning you won’t feel rushed, you’ll get everything done and organised that you need to and you’ll probably have time to sit and have a cup of coffee or tea.

PIGGY BANKS AREN’T JUST FOR KIDS

You’ve bought presents, a plane ticket or treated yourself to a special gift (After all you’ve worked hard this year!) so you may be feeling a little money pressure. Get yourself a piggybank and get into the habit of putting all your loose coins into the jar. Look in your wallet, centre console in your car, in your pockets, at the bottom of your bag and under your couch cushions. You’ll be surprised how quickly these coins add up, and they’ll give you a little extra spending money at the end of the month.

TIME TO DECLUTTER

Whether you have a bag, wallet or briefcase, put aside a few minutes once a week to get rid of all the rubbish you’ve collected. Gum wrappers, sweet papers, receipts, coins and pens all find their way to the bottom of your bag, so take everything out and throw away what you don’t need. It will make your bag more organised and lighter, and you won’t struggle to find your car keys or cellphone.

WRITE A TO-DO LIST

Even though you’re on holiday, things still need to get done! Create a to-do list of all your tasks and start ticking things off. This encourages you to get the rest of your list done, and it will help you to be efficient.
