This is South Africa’s longest running music festival and it’s held annually in Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal in March. It’s named after the farm where the festival happens and it has great acoustics and beautiful views. This “outdoor experience” has something for everyone and it’s an essential part of the local music scene.
Cape Town International Jazz Festival
This two-day event is affectionately called “Africa’s Grandest Gathering” and it’s held in the Mother City during March and April. It’s the biggest music event in sub-Saharan Africa and it features the best in local and African talent, alongside international artists.
Tankwa in the Karoo (in the Northern Cape) is the destination for AfrikaBurn. This annual event takes place over April and May, and is based on the Burning Man festival in the Nevada Desert. The festival is about self-expression which is why there’s every kind of music you can imagine.
The Limpopo Province is home to Oppikoppi, which takes place during the second weekend of August every year. There are a variety of stages, offering a huge selection of music to suit all preferences. It features mostly local bands and is one of the country’s largest music festivals.
Rocking the Daisies
The only place to be every October is the Cloof Wine Estate in Darling, for Rocking the Daisies. This music and lifestyle event is the biggest camping outdoor gathering in the country and it features top SA bands that perform a huge range of music.
